As part of Local Eye Site’s continued celebration of Outstanding Ophthalmic Technicians, today we profile our Southeast Region contest winner.
Charlene Seidel, COT, placed first in the Southeast region in the 2017 Outstanding Ophthalmic Technician Awards. Seidel, who was nominated by Susan Corwin, is being honored for exhibiting teamwork with doctors, colleagues, and industry leadership through peer mentorship. “Patients ask for Charlene by name; she is compassionate and friendly—treating all with respect and a bit of humor,” says Corwin.
Jacksonville has a college based COA and COT program, and Charlene is the mentor in the practice for students who rotate through every quarter on their externships. She is also the refractive and cataract surgery coordinator, performing pre-op measurements and assisting in the surgery and post-op care.
“Charlene is the most skilled tech I have ever met,” says Corwin. “Doctors also rely on her to evaluate equipment and processes in the office.”
Jacksonville Eye Center, Jacksonville, FL where Seidel is employed, has received an Icare® HOME tonometer in addition to a $500 cash prize. The HOME tonometer is an easy and patient-friendly method for 24-hour monitoring of intraocular pressure to tailor the management of glaucoma patients and suspects.
The Outstanding Ophthalmic Technician Awards recognize the quality care and dedication of Ophthalmic Technicians, who demonstrate exemplary talents in clinical practices, patient care, and collaboration. The awards program was established by Local Eye Site and is sponsored by Icare USA.
